Larger beam angles from 60° to 135° will produce a broader beam suited for most residential applications or ambient lighting in commercial applications. They are also useful in lower ceiling applications (< 3m). Whereas a 45° beam spread may be more useful in higher ceiling applications or for corridor lighting.

Had a 2 day course (TMI & practical) with trainer Jason.K. He is full of energy and is very enthusiastic. He conducted the classes really well, and he ensures that everyone understood the content by explaining in a way his students could relate. He is also very funny with the jokes and hand gestures, which (personally I think) grabs the attention of his students. Please give him a raise!!!!

Firstly LED light bulbs like their incandescent or typically halogen counter parts are available in multiple beam angles from as low as 25° to as high as 135° as determined by the lens type used in the bulb.

Some LED lights, particularly LED downlights will have a reflector of varying dimensions and surface reflection which can further act to scatter or focus the light depending on the design of the reflector. In the scattering type, once again a 45° LED light bulb with a reflector can appear more similar to a 60° LED light bulb without a reflector. The use of a reflector can also allow the elimination of the lens to reduce the losses.

The limitation of the opaque or Fresnel lens is that there is a reduction in lumens depending on the opacity and quality of the lens. The Fresnel lens can also have the effect of scattering the light such that narrower beam angles can seem slighting wider, for example a 45° LED light bulb with a Fresnel lens appears more similar to a 60° LED light bulb with normal opaque lens.

I attended the TMI training on Friday. Fran was my trainer and I must admit, as a trainer of trainers myself, she was excellent. Not only does Fran know her stuff, she has the ability to keep people's attention and to get the correct information out there. She does this, not just by training, but by facilitating the training. In other words, she asks the question, and gets people to come up with the answers themselves. I personally always found this to be the best method of training. When people think for themselves they remember it better and this always helps while doing the job. Not only is Fran knowledgeable but she is very personable and approachable. She calls each person by their name and looks them in the eye while speaking to them. She can have a joke and a laugh which is very important, yet more importantly, she gets her message across. I saw men, who have been in the industry for years, admit to Fran that they had learned more in that one day with her than they had in years. Fran is a true asset to your company. Look after her ... I have just completed my Working at Heights ticket and my Working in Confined Spaces ticket through Upskills QLD. My trainer Jase, was exceptional in outlining the safety aspects and explaining the real-world applications of each component in a comprehensive manner.
