You can also park there for free for four hours on the weekend, from 12:30pm to 5:30pm, and there's paid parking for four hours every day between 5:30–10pm.

However, the signs received some criticism online for being a possible trap, as it opens the possibility of the restrictions changing while a vehicle is parked in the spot.

After some research, I found that it's not even the worst sign in Sydney, with Reddit and X (formally known as Twitter) littered with posts pointing out the worst of the worst around the harbour city.

I came across one particular sign the other day when attempting to find a spot on King Street in Newtown, Sydney, that stopped me in my tracks.

Other parking changes enacted in Melbourne's CBD included waiving parking fees for anyone staying less than 15 minutes, reviewing and relocating loading zones, offering an off-peak parking rate of $4 an hour on weeknights and on weekends, and adding designated 'pick up and drop off' spaces on every street.

After several minutes spent pulled over on the side of the road, trying to decipher the sign, it all became a little too much and we decided to just move the car into a new spot with a simpler street sign.

An increasing number of people believe Australia's parking signs need a drastic overhaul – and this sign we spotted in Newtown only adds fuel to the fire.

Another post on r/Sydney noted a street sign with nine different times noted on a single pole. Commenters clarified that it's fine if you're from the area, but if not, it can be seriously confusing.

Sydney has previously tried to rectify this issue by trialling digital signs across Surry Hills that only display the restrictions in place at the exact time they're in place.

I stopped for a couple of minutes to read the sign to find out whether my passenger and I needed to pay for parking, if it was free, or if our car was going to get towed.

Eddy Meyer, a reporter from Nine News in Sydney, posted to his X account a photo of a parking sign with so many plaques that it was bowing after his car was towed from a spot due to the confusion around the sign.

Starting in March 2024, the City of Melbourne implemented a consistent two-hour time limit for all general parking spaces in the CBD, from 7am to 10pm every day, to improve turnover for street parking and reduce confusion.

Sydney is not the only city with a parking sign problem. Melbourne's CBD and surrounds have also been criticised due to their overly complicated parking signage.

As a result, the City of Melbourne Council vowed in 2023 to rectify parking issues by simplifying signage, reducing the hourly price and offering more disabled parking spots across the CBD.

GM installed an under hood light on 2001 and 2002 trucks but then discontinued them to the disappointment of many owners. The hood still has the proper cutouts to accept the light so it can be easily added in. Simply hook up power and ground to the supplied factory style connector and the switch is internal to the light.

After looking back at it, we figured out that it was a clearway from 6–10am Monday to Friday, but you could park there for one hour with a free ticket 10am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday to Sunday.

You are allowed to park for free unlimited at all other unlisted times, but you can also get a free half-hour ticket by entering your licence plate into the meter. Phew.

That's three paragraphs of text just to explain this one street sign, so you can imagine trying to decipher this while cars are whizzing past and then the anxiety after you walk away from your car, unsure if you've just broken one of five different parking laws.
