Should you choose to run more than 2 of the Evo 7’s or possibly pair them with a single or pair of Evo 8.5 Inch lights, we recommend using our Smart Harness to mitigate the electrical current.

The latest addition to the Type-X™ range from STEDI™ are the Evo 7-inch LED driving lights. A continuation of the Evo light range, the 7-inch variation continues the STEDI™ mission of crafting an affordable yet modern solution to on & off-road visibility with a compact twist. In this blog post, we will explore the key benefits and features of the Type-X™ Evo 7-inch.

Regarding the Type-X™ EVO 8.5 inch we opted for the brightest LED available, the CREE XPL2 emitter. A phenomenally powerful LED we realised could be underdriven (powered at a lower rate) to allow high performance and a longer running lifetime. Naturally after their success, we decided to follow suit in the EVO 7-inch with 32 XPL2 LEDs allowing for a nearly identical performance just squeezed into a smaller form.

The unit of 1 Lux is the minimum amount of light required to read a newspaper or book if held up in front of a light source at any distance. When running a pair of Evo 7 Spots expect 1 Lux at a distance up to 948 meters; while using a set of two Evo 7 Floods 1 Lux is measured at 625 meters in front while achieving 140 meters of spread.

When we looked at driving lights (our own included), we noticed a distinct lack of lights that adhered to the design principles seen across modern vehicles. Our design brief with the Evo range was to make something that looked like it was made by any of the cutting-edge modern vehicle manufacturers today. Our team has spent years, (not exaggerating either) meticulously refining, curating, and evolving these lights with truly no attention to detail missed.

In a similar way, with the updated design of the 3D lens on the Type-X™ Evo, comes a new generation of blackout & filter Covers. The latest Evo 7-inch blackout covers feature returning designs including our Iconic Smiley, Carbon Fibre, and Owl. Some newer additions to the Evo cover range include the coloured filter lenses, all driving condition-specific, converting your crisp 5700k white colour beam to either an amber beam for tackling roads with haze & fog, or a cool blue beam, resulting in increased visibility when driving on roads with ice, snow, or excessive moisture.

What is the critical zone, you ask? The critical zone is the optimal distance that you require for safely stopping from 100km/h to avoid any animal strike. You typically want at least 200-300m of perfectly placed light in front of you, and with over 140m of elongated horizontal light from a single Type-X™ EVO 7-inch flood, elevating your safety whilst driving.

In our experience testing and fitting out various vehicles over the years at STEDI™, our team has understood that a bigger light doesn’t necessarily mean better light. Comparing the Type-X™ Evo 8.5-inch to the 7-inch in terms of raw output, sure the 8.5-inch variation would have far more lux capability; however, if we compare these lights based on compatibility and fitment potential, the Evo 7 has an immense leg up. Think your modern bull bars with restrictions on height, lightweight 4X4 vehicles, or the traditional staggered look paired with the Evo 8.5”.

Like the 8.5-inch model, the Evo 7-inch driving lights have dedicated Spot and Flood models. Our goal is to give you the freedom to mix and match any combination of these Evos across all sizes, to perform at their best in whatever common driving conditions you find yourself with. By translating our experience designing and creating the Type-X™ Pro’s combination reflectors into new dedicated Spot & Flood reflectors for the Evo, combined with the latest LED technology; we’ve managed to produce the most intense Lux output in a 7-inch driving light from STEDI™ to date.

Although covers are designed for aesthetic or functional purposes, they also benefit regions with strict road compliance. For example in Australia exceeding four driving lights, renders the vehicle unroadworthy, by covering up a light the lights are excluded from the count. Other countries such as the EU and USA require all lights to be covered at all times, whilst driving on a sealed road.

When we set out to improve upon the Type-X™ Pro driving light (comprehensively), we wanted to elevate optional accessories. With the Evo, gone are the brightly coloured rings used to accent the light; rather we’ve opted for a more refined metalized finished fascia ring. This updated material choice, combined with the iconic shape of the Evo lights, allows the EVO’s to adapt and accent the modern vehicle aesthetic profile. Just like the 8.5-inch Evo, the Type-X™ Evo 7-inch driving lights feature STEDI’s™ signature variety of metallic finished fascia including grey, red, green, pink, orange, and blue with more to come on the horizon.

One of the main aspects of what we at STEDI™ identified as a design feature of modern vehicles was the hexagonal shape of front grills. To accent the hexagon silhouette, we’ve paired it with two ancillary aspects: a metalized coloured Fascia (an evolution of our Type-X™ Pro Ring) and a 3d lens with top & bottom panels. Now don’t be fooled by the old trope of getting a spotlight or driving light with glass for increased durability. We have tested and settled on a Lexan polycarbonate lens; succinctly all lenses on the Evo lights use the same material as riot shields, making our lenses shatter and chip-proof. Oh, did we mention that all our fascia and covers require no tools to fit; say “adios” to screws and alan-keys and “hello” to snap-on simplicity.

For theft prevention, our team has cooked up a new iteration of an Anti-Theft nuts and bolts kit. This kit will make any would-be thief, work extra hard to pinch any of your Evo 7-inch driving lights off your vehicle.

Like the big brother Evo 8.5-inch, the EVO 7 was envisioned over the last 3 years as a modern lighting solution to the spotlight/driving light market.

Simply put, Type-X™ Evo 7’s powerful output and wide beam pattern illuminate the surroundings, allowing you to see further ahead and spot potential hazards such as Kangaroos, Wombats, and other wildlife that may wander into your path from the shoulder of the road. This enhanced visibility improves reaction time, helping you navigate challenging driving conditions more safely.

We’re sure most readers of this article are familiar with our ever-popular Type-X™ Pro, a do-it-all light, that merged flood and spotlight capabilities into one spectacularly performing driving light. Contrary to this, we wanted to make something exclusive in function with the Evo range, with a singular purpose that it could excel within.

Furthermore, the Evo 7-inch lights are plug-and-play with a Deutsch 2-Pin Connector, meaning they can be easily connected to any pre-existing wiring system without the need for complex modifications.
